Need to choose a laptop

We’re buying our first laptop tomorrow.  For some time I had planned on getting an Acer in the $500 range, but could actually afford to spend a little more than that.  I’m wondering if spending a few more dollars on an HP or a Dell (which my wife wants specifically) is a worthwhile investment.  If you can provide helpful advice between now and Saturday afternoon you might can help us.  You could even suggest we buy a Mac, but we’re not going to :-)

    WIth a cheaper laptop, be concerned with service. Thats why I own a Dell PC. For around $600, the service is unbeatable.
