Acer Chromebook

We all know the Chromebook starts at $249 right? The Samsung Chromebook does. But I just learned HP and Acer also have a Chromebook, and the Acer starts at only $199. For the price of a 16 GB Kindle Fire you can buy a laptop computer.
Check it out here and browse stats for the other Chromebook models as well. I bought an Acer Aspire laptop (back in the Vista heyday) five years ago. My wife bought a Windows 7 version last year. We still use them both. And before you say “Acer is made in China…” well yeah, and so is the iPhone 5. So are most things.
I love the Google Chrome browser, does that mean the Chrome OS is worth my while? For $199, that’s a chance I’m willing to take. I’ll let you know.

I’m happy to report so far so good. Chromebook uses web-based apps and is meant to be connected to the Internet. The apps are in the cloud, not on the machine, if that makes sense. But we mostly use our laptops to access the web as it is, such as WordPress, Facebook, Netflix, Youtube, etc. It’s not a computer in the traditional sense, and will take some getting use to. I’m still in the honeymoon phase, we’ll see what life is like when that’s over.
