Clark Bunch as Easy Rider
July 11, 2008
Peter Fonda’s getting too old to do it. He was unavaible for comment. Seriously though, my friends know that I went through a fiasco last year where I thought I was getting a Yamaha motorcycle, and got doublecrossed. We made a deal, and later that night he sold it to someone else for more money. All water under the bridge, but that’s twice I thought I was getting that bike and didn’t.
My friend Roy (the only guy from high school I’m still in touch with) is selling me his Honda 500 since he bought a bigger bike. I haven’t seen it yet, but he now rides a newer model 1100. I thought I was getting a Yahmaha last year, thought I was getting a Suzuki earlier this summer, but it looks like I will finally be buying a motorcycle for real; unless Roy flakes out on me. He’s a good guy; I believe in Roy.
Pictured above is a Honda 500 Shadow, but not actually the one I’m buying. Sadly, I don’t have a picture of Roy either.
I’m on the Real Internet
July 2, 2008
The guy came yesterday and installed our DSL. That’s right; for the past 8 years we’ve only had dial-up. I found out just a year or so ago that my 2000 year-model Gateway, running Windows 98, doesn’t even have a 56K modem. Up until about February, we were using a 28.8 modem. That was the only internet access we had at home. So anytime you see a blog post with pictures, that means I uploaded them from school. It’s not a big a deal as it sounds. I can walk from here to my classroom in about 10 min if I’m in a hurry. But still, I have stayed in the Ministry Center office blogging until 2 a.m. on more than one occasion. What a comfort to my wife to know that instead of being in the office at work until 2 in the morning, I’ll be in our office here at home until 2 in the morning.
Seriously (although that wasn’t a joke) I can check my e-mail, glance my blog stats, and catch up on CNN Headlines News blog what I missed overnight all before heading out the door in the morning. We can be on the internet for hours without worrying who’s call we’re missing. My boss once tried calling on a Sunday night to see if our Men’s Bible study was meeting the next morning, and never got through. All my family lives in GA, and I’ll be able to stay in touch with my brother more often. He updates his MySpace like every hour it seems like. Teresa’s family is in Germany, and she can fially video conference her mother like they’ve been daydreaming about for years. It will be a lot of fun, but this will also make me more productive.
Celebrating a milestone
June 27, 2008When I moved my stuff from here to The Master’s Table, I left behind a counter with about 2,000 hits on it. As of 11:00 pm on the evening of June 27, this site has 2,322 views, The Master’s Table has surpassed it at 2,330 views. I try not to make a big deal out of numbers, but I’ve been waiting weeks for this to happen.
In unrelated news, the guy is coming Monday afternoon to install DSL. That’s right, we still use dial up. I have a laptop now, and am making the move to fast access. Please welcome me to the 21st century.
bought a laptop
June 22, 2008
I did buy an Acer. (That’s an actual photo of it sitting on my coffee table.) I know it’s something of an offbrand, but I know several people that have them. A guy I met in the store told me two stories: he had a Dell that lasted for years and years, and was probably the best laptop he ever had. He also mentioned having an HP that his cat knocked off the table and broke in half. The HP was almost $900, and we have 2 dogs in addition to a cat. Ouch. I use HP printers and their digital camera, but HP laptops sell for Apple prices. I did choose the $548 Acer Aspire over the $498 one. It comes with 2 GB of operating memory instead of 1, and burns DVDs instead of just reading them. AND I DON’T GET WHAT ALL THE VISTA FUSS IS ABOUT. I’ve had no problems whatsoever. I hooked up a 2 year old HP printer that came with drivers for XP and it installed them. It also interfaces seamlessly with the Dell projector in our chapel. I’ve been very well pleased so far.
Need to choose a laptop
June 20, 2008
We’re buying our first laptop tomorrow. For some time I had planned on getting an Acer in the $500 range, but could actually afford to spend a little more than that. I’m wondering if spending a few more dollars on an HP or a Dell (which my wife wants specifically) is a worthwhile investment. If you can provide helpful advice between now and Saturday afternoon you might can help us. You could even suggest we buy a Mac, but we’re not going to ![]()
Welcome to my weblog
June 14, 2008
This site was my first attempt at blogging. I’ve gotten a lot of traffic since Internet Monk posted my book review, but all my religion/ theology stuff now appears at The Master’s Table. I use this page as sort of an online journal, and do don’t that often enough. You’re welcome to check up on me from time to time, and the What’s Happening page is about whatever events are current in my life. Most of my blogging is theology, though, and that’s on the other site. Clark Bunch’s Weblog has been relegated to random stuff that doesn’t seem to fit in over there.

Cumberland Falls
June 4, 2008
This is Teresa and I at Cumberland Falls, the self proclaimed “Niagara of the South.” Cumberland Falls is about an hour north of Knoxville, TN., just a few minutes east of Corbin, KY.
Our trip to GA went well, and we’re gearing up for summer school to start next week. The garden has done well also; we have a couple of squash already, and about half a dozen or so green tomatoes about the size of the end of your thumb. The cucumber vines are just beginning to run. The only thing I’m worried about is my jalapeño plants. One looks downright pitiful. I’ve got four, so we’re in good shape.
More pics below; I have video on YouTube. Watch for at least 30 seconds and the shot changes.
