The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition came out this week (and no I did not). I’m going to restate what’s becoming increasingly obvious, and David Letterman said years ago; there aren’t any swimsuits in it.
Okay, there are still a few. The covergirl is wearing enough they can call it a “swimsuit” issue, otherwise it would have to be wrapped in black plastic. There has been a section for years of models in bodypaint. That’s naked women painted to look as if they’re wearing a suit. Even the painted on suit is less modest (if that even makes sense) than it used to be. And many of the “swimsuit” models are not wearing anything. Sometimes they have strings of beads, a strategically placed coconut, waves, their hands, or a see through top to cover themselves.
SI: just call it what it is. The Sports Illustrated Naked Women Edition. That’s truth in advertising. You might even sell a few more.
