The Death of Pontiac

pontiac_emblemUncle Jay is usually good for a laugh, but on May 4 I learned that Pontiac is being shut down. The Vibe may outlast the rest of the brand into 2010, and possibly be sold off to another company, but the Pontiac brand will be no more.

GM is somewhat lucky to still exist at all really. In exchange for their multi-billion dollar bailout, they agreed to be restructured by the Federal Government. Pontiac is a thing of legend though, with models such as the GTO, TransAm, Grand Am, and SunFire to name a few. Songs were sung about them in the 60’s (Little GTO), and where would Michael Knight be without KITT?

“We build excitement” was their slogan in the 80’s.  I guess all good things must come to an end.  Here’s a few pics of my fav’s:

One Response to The Death of Pontiac

I just noticed that each of these cars pictured is from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, in that order. I might not miss Pontiac building new cars afterall; it just seems a shame to me that there is no more Pontiac in light of their glorious past.
