PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. In principle it’s a great idea. I don’t like to see any living thing abused, I swear it. It’s just not right when animals are kept for years at the point of starvation, or forced to live out their days tied to a 3 ft. section of rope. These are examples of criminal neglect for which offenders should go to jail.
But along the way somewhere PETA got a little weird. Like when they picketed KFC because of chickens being kept in cages. Free-roam cattle would be one thing; there are no free-roam chickens. Maybe if you had 5 or 10, but a corporation cannot raise one million at a time on a farm and let them just walk around. Remember, they are about to be eaten.
Then it gets relly weird. PETA tried to restrict recreational fishing because fish have feelings too. I’m not even sure they do. They also petitioned Ben & Jerry’s to stop using cows’ milk in their ice cream and – no kidding – use human breast milk instead. Breastfeeding an infant is what God and nature intended. But for people of all ages to harvest and consume human milk; there is something terribly and horribly wrong here. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any stranger…
President Obama paused during an interview and swatted a fly. The wack-jobs at PETA freaked out. They saw the “incident” as a bad example from our national leader. Really? No, really? If Obama had kicked his dog, I would be upset. The man killed a fly. Flies are pests that carry and transmit disease. They were a plague against Egypt in Exodus. Even other animals (horses, cows, giraffe) swat them when they can. Come on.
I believe in the ethical treatment of animals. But when it comes to sacrificing human quality of life in order to say, let flies continue biting me, there’s something out of the natural order. I wonder how PETA feels about flee and tick spray? It would be unethical to let my dog be eaten alive by parasites.
- I’m gonna’ start my own PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals.
- If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?
