Burger King created a brand for their coffee by calling it BK Joe. They advertised it came in 3 easy-to-say sizes, a sneer at the ridiculous cup sizing system at Starbucks. I like BK Joe. Burger King and McDonald’s have both had pretty good coffee for quite a while. Well, they did have.
Last year McDonald’s took a chunk out of Starbucks’s profits after unveiling McCafe. While I still order small coffee, black, I know that McCafe has tapped into a growing market share of premium coffee customers. In a effort to keep up, Burger King is now “proudly serving Seattle’s Best Coffee.” There’s only one problem; it’s not as good as BK Joe.
I rarely, very rarely, go to Starbucks. Like I said, I take my coffee one way – in a cup. Straight coffee is loaded with caffeine and has no calories, fat or anything else for that matter. I’m not paying $3 for a tall plain coffee. BUT… Starbucks is the best coffee to come out of Seattle. I’m sure that BK has signed a one or two year contract with Seattle’s Best so that can cross-promote each other, but BK is getting the short end of that deal. What they had was better.
