Plessy and Ferguson

The Plessy & Ferguson Foundation was founded in 2004 to promote civil rights.  That’s Phobe Ferguson and Keith Plessy pictured at left.  You may remember the Supreme Court Case Plessy v. Ferguson from U.S. History.  Homer Plessy was arrested after refusing to leave a white’s only train car in Louisiana.  Think Rosa Parks back when trains were public transportation.  The case made it to the Supreme Court at which time the “separate but equal” precedent was established.  Read more at Wikipedia if this doesn’t ring any bells.

Keith is the great-grandson of Homer Plessy’s first cousin.  Phobe is the great-great-granddaughter of John Ferguson.  They are standing at the exact spot that Homer Plessy refused to leave the train back in 1896!
