USA’s First Medal is Silver

USA Men’s Archery upset South Korea, the #1 ranked team in the world, in order to reach the finals.  It took 3 bulls eye shots in a row to do it!  The final vs. Italy came down to the last shot; he needed 10 points to win gold, 9 points would have resulted in a shot off.  Italy won gold by 1 point, and that last point was decided by a fraction of an inch.  America’s first medal in 2012 will be silver.

USA women’s basketball advances by beating Croatia, but it was very close there for a quite a while.  Michael Phelps will compete in the 400m IM finals, but that was very close; he got in by 0.07 seconds.  Mark Cavendish was the local (British) favorite to win in Men’s Cycling, but it didn’t happen.  Men’s cycling went to Kazakhstan, Columbia and Norway (in that order).  Host countries usually get a little boost in bringing home the medals, and there are several other British favorites.

I am certainly not the world’s biggest sports fan, and my “coverage” of the Olympic Games is kind of arbitrary. It depends on how much time I have to watch and if I feel impressed to write about what I’ve seen.
