Sportacus is the athletic superhero of the kids show Lazy Town. Most of the population of Lazy Town, with a few exceptions, are puppets. Creepy puppets. The real life characters that interact with them, such as Stephanie and Sportacus, are cartoonish and exaggerated in appearance. I like the premise of the show which encourages kids to be physically active, but find it hard to sit through personally. For the record, our four-year-old loves it.
On a whim I decided to research the real guy. I wondered about his nationality, which my wife suggested is French or Belgian. Magnús Örn Eyjólfsson Scheving is not just an Icelandic athlete turned actor; he also created the Lazy Town franchise. He is a writer, producer, athlete and stars in the program he created. While the I still find the puppets creepy, my respect for this guy just shot up immensely.
Born in 1964, Magnus Scheving is 49 years old. He has three kids and two grandchildren. He won several titles in the early 90’s, and his company Lazy Town Entertainment produces books, video games and sporting equipment in addition to the t.v. series Lazy Town.
